What is Physiotherapy and how can it help?

Physiotherapy is the assessment, treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal dysfunction. Physiotherapy promotes optimal rehabilitation and pain relief by non-invasive hands on approach, following bone, muscle, nerve, ligament and joint injuries. This involves investigating the cause of your complaint (usually pain), and then linking this to your muscles, joints, nerves and movement patterns. At Healthstream we also encouraging the body’s own natural healing mechanisms to optimise recovery.

We can help relieve your pain allowing you to return to full function and do all the things you want to do. Whether you have had an acute injury through sport, accident or a long term chronic problem such as postural back or neck pain physiotherapy can help.

What can we treat?

At HealthStream we can treat a variety of problems including pain, inflammation and muscle spasm.

Physiotherapy can aid in faster recover from sports injuries (like ligament sprains or muscular strains), fractures (broken bones), whiplash, back injuries and orthopaedic surgery.

Physiotherapy can help pain caused by arthritis, overuse, poor posture and pregnancy.  Headaches and migraines can arise wholly or partially from the neck and may also benefit from treatment.

The conditions that respond very well to physiotherapy are, back and neck problems such as sciatica, lower back pain, neck pain, headaches and whiplash.

Sports injuries such as hamstring strains, tennis elbow, shin splints, cartilage damage, ligament sprains, and meniscal tears also respond well to physiotherapy.

Other problems which can be treated are Orthopaedic problems such as fractures, joint replacements and poor biomechanics.

For Arthritic conditions,such as osteo-arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis or other joint problems and pain, we can help to reduce your pain by providing appropriate advice, exercises and treatments.

Who we are at HealthStream?

At HealthStream you will be treated by a member of our team of experienced Chartered Physiotherapists. Having worked in the NHS and private practices they have developed extensive experience in dealing with a huge variety of neuromusculo-skeletal conditions.  They are adept at the use of various techniques employed within physiotherapy such as soft tissue and joint mobilisation, manipulation, muscle energy techniques, the use of electrotherapy, exercise therapy, craniosacral therapy, acupuncture and cupping.  At HealthStream we are registered with the Health Professionals Council (HPC), the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and the Organisation of Chartered Physiotherapists in Private Practice (OCPPP or Physio First).

Can my personal health information be used and disclosed without any notice to me or without my informed consent at the time of treatment


The Amended HIPAA Privacy Rule states only that you must receive a Privacy Notice telling you how your personal health information will be used and disclosed. Section 164.520(c) (2) (i) (A).
Privacy Notices are often mistaken for consent forms, but they are simply notices telling you what will happen to your medical records.
